It’s Festival Season – but what are this year’s must have items?

It’s that time of year again – festival season. If you’re off abroad to one of those fancy-pants new European festivals with guaranteed sun then you can back lightly.

Back in dear old blighty the age old problem rears its ugly head – the British weather. It’s a beast of a thing to try and predict at the best of times and as for the last few summers, well the less said the better.

So it’s time to hit the Met Office website on a daily basis and listen to all sorts of strange predictions from friends and family – see if cows are sitting or rolling in nearby fields, anything that might give you a clue what you might need to bring with you to your favoured festival. In this country it could easily be bikini and shorts weather or gollashes and jumpers.

We reckon it’s best to be prepared. British festivals don’t need much rain for thousands of feet to churn up that nice green field into a lake of mud. So wellies are the order of the day. Fail to pack a pair of these at your own peril – up to your ankles in mud in plimsolls is not a good look. 

We’ve got some great recommendations for rubberised footwear that should suit all pockets and sensibilities. These cute little spotty ones are pretty much ladies only. Now if you’re expecting some serious mud and you’d like to be able to run, skip and jump through the biggest lake of brown sludge then you need some serious wellies and we reckon we’ve found them. Now you’ve got your footwear sorted time to think about what you’re going to eat and drink. The myriad of food stalls might seem enticing but eating at them each day will cost you a small fortune and not do you much good. We say stock up at the nearest market with fresh food and take it with you. You can still look the part as you save yourself cash and get to stay healthy. There are some great looking anodized boxes and flasks from Sigg that will keep your stuff fresh and this handy little fold up cutlery set will no doubt prove invaluable.

One last thing you should be without is of course a trusty umbrella. You may pray and hope for sun but this is Britain so be prepared. So we’ve finally hit the summer solstice…not that many people would have noticed with the recent weather sadly.  Even those in the umbrella trade are hoping for at least some sunshine this year.

One of the guys from the office took some time out to head to Royal Ascot this week and, being a gambling man, decided to leave his brolly at home…he got lucky with the weather but not the horses apparently.  We girls were of course more interested in the fashions than the racing and soon found ourselves pouring over the pictures looking for fashion mistakes…amazing how many people look wonderful in their finery…then let themselves down with a clashing brolly!!  It seems such a shame to let the elements get to all your finery.

One person who always looked wonderful at Royal Ascot was Her Majesty The Queen.  Her love of horse racing is very well documented but the pictures showed her wonderful, unreserved joy as Estimate won the Ascot Gold Cup.  Just one more race on Her Majesty’s wish list now….the Epsom Derby.  Good luck Ma’am.

No sooner has the social event of the racing calendar finished, we move onto the event most of us proud Scots are looking forward to this year….Wimbledon.

Can our man Murray finally win in SW19? We certainly hope so in the office.  Our boss is a huge tennis fan and we are all hoping Murray does well as she can be a moody mare if he doesn’t!! ha ha.
